Alfalfa
|
Organically grown in Canada, Alfalfa is one of the basic seeds for
sprouting. The high nutritional value and good taste make it perfect
for adding to sprout mixes as well as for use by itself. The roots
of a mature plant can grow several meters into the earth, absorbing
hard to find trace elements. The seeds then store these nutrients
until the seed is sprouted. These trace elements are then prepared
for digestion. The sprout grows from 1" to 3" and produces a green
sprout. Ideal temperature is 60 - 80 F for sprouting.

Basil
|
This Basil variety produces sprouts with small to medium leaves which are an intense green colour and very aromatic. The leaves contain an essential oil that gives them their charismatic aroma and which also has digestive and stimulant properties. These seeds can be used for producing high energy value sprouts.
Basil is a very good source of vitamin A (through its concentration of carotenoids such as beta-carotene).
Called "pro-vitamin A," since it can be converted into vitamin A, beta-carotene is a more powerful anti-oxidant than vitamin A and not only protects epithelial cells (the cells that form the lining of numerous body structures including the blood vessels) from free radical damage, but also helps prevent free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol in the blood stream. Only after it has been oxidized does cholesterol build up in blood vessel walls, initiating the development of atherosclerosis, whose end result can be a heart attack or stroke.

Black Seed

Black Seed
In English, Nigella sativa seed is variously called Black cumin, fennel flower, nutmeg flower, Roman coriander, blackseed, black caraway, or black onion seed. Other names used, sometimes misleadingly, are onion seed and black sesame, both of which are similar-looking but unrelated. The scientific name is a derivative of Latin niger "black". In English-speaking countries with large immigrant populations, it is also variously known as kalonji, kezah, chernushka, çörek otu, habbat albarakah
Usage:
In herbal medicine, Nigella sativa has hypertensive, carminative, and anthelminthic properties. They are eaten by elephants to aid digestion. Nigella sativa has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries, both as a herb and pressed into oil, in Asia, Middle East, and Africa. It has been traditionally used for a variety of conditions and treatments related to respiratory health, stomach and intestinal health, kidney and liver function, circulatory and immune system support, and for general well-being. In Islam, it is regarded as one of the greatest forms of healing medicine available. Prophet Muhammad once stated that the black seed can heal every disease—except death. The seeds have been traditionally used in the Middle East and Southeast Asian countries to treat ailments including asthma, bronchitis, rheumatism and related inflammatory diseases, to increase milk production in nursing mothers, to promote digestion and to fight parasitic infections. Its oil has been used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and boils and to treat cold symptoms. Its many uses have earned nigella the Arabic approbation 'Habbatul barakah', meaning the seed of blessing.
