Onion

onion

Onion sprouts are among the most flavorful of all sprouts. A sprouted onion seed is like a very tiny onion or scallion, but not quite so powerful. They make an excellent addition to salads, and onion sprouts can be substituted for onions in any salad and are a high in minerals and vitamins A, B, C, and E.

Onion sprouting seed has shorter shelf life than most types of sprouting seed. Storing the seeds in your freezer will extend their shelf life. Shelf life is usually over a year, even without freezing. After that time, the germination rate begins to decline.

Onion sprouts are slower growing sprouts, sometimes taking a week an a half to grow to a full sized sprout but well worth the wait.

Peppercorn

Black pepper comes from the pepper plant, a smooth woody vine that can grow up to 33 feet in hot and humid tropical climates. They begin to bear small white clustered flowers after 3 to 4 years and develop into berries known as peppercorns, their color
is a reflection of varying stages of development and processing methods.

Black pepper (Piper nigrum)stimulates the taste buds in such a way that an alert is sent to to the stomach to increase hydrochloric acid secretion, thereby improving digestion. Hydrochloric acid is necessary for the digestion of proteins and other food components in the stomach. When the body's production of hydrochloric acid is insufficient, food may sit in the stomach for an extended period of time, leading to heartburn or indigestion, or it may pass into the intestines, where it can be used as a food source for unfriendly gut bacteria, whose activities produce gas, irritation, and/or diarrhea or constipation.

Black pepper has long been recognized as a carminitive, (a substance that helps prevent the formation of intestinal gas), a property likely due to its beneficial effect of stimulating hydrochloric acid production. In addition, black pepper has diaphoretic (promotes sweating), and diuretic (promotes urination) properties.

Black pepper has demonstrated impressive antioxidant and antibacterial effects--yet another way in which this wonderful seasoning promotes the health of the digestive tract. And not only does black pepper help you derive the most benefit from your food, the outer layer of the peppercorn stimulates the breakdown of fat cells, keeping you slim while giving you energy to burn.
Black pepper is an excellent source of manganese, a very good source of iron and vitamin K, and a good source of dietary fiber.

Black Quinoa

Quinoa is a South American grain that was farmed by the Inca civilization. Quinoa contains more protein than any other grain with an average of 16.2% and is high in Lysine as well as other amino acids. This grain is an excellent candidate for sprout breads and soups. In bread its naturally sweet taste will delight you. Produced organically in Canada for sprouting. Sprouts in 1 to 2 days.

Quinoa, Red
Quinoa grains range in color from ivory to pinks, brown to reds, or almost black depending on the variety. The quinoa seed is high in protein, calcium and iron, a relatively good source of vitamin E and several of the B vitamins. It contains an almost perfect balance of all eight essential amino acids needed for tissue development in humans. It is exceptionally high in lysine, cystine and methionine-amino acids typically low in other grains. It is a good complement for legumes, which are often low in methionine and cystine. The protein in quinoa is considered to be a complete protein due to the presence of all 8 essential amino acids. The seeds are gluten-free which makes this a nutritious and flavorful alternative grain for those with gluten sensitivity. Quinoa seeds can be sprouted and eaten as raw, live food for snacks or in salads and sandwiches. To sprout the seeds, soak about 1/3 cup seeds in a jar for 2 to 4 hours, then drain and rinse the seeds twice a day for 2 to 4 days. When the sprouts are about 1 inch long, place them near a window for chlorophyll to develop, which will give them a vibrant green color.
